The Electronic Entertainment Expo, (E3), is an event where game developer studios and hardware creators flock annually to showcase their latest and upcoming games and technologies. It features press conferences from recognizable names such as EA, Bethesda, Ubisoft, Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony and CD Projekt Red. This year, surprisingly, Sony was a no show to the event. However, those who did show up tried and succeeded at blowing our minds.
Ubisoft showed the world premier of the third instalment of Watchdogs, dubbed Watchdogs Legion that features some very interesting in game mechanics. The game is set in London which has fallen into a technological nightmare as government surveillance goes above and beyond. All citizens have a reason to revolt, and as such you can play as quite literally anyone. The trailer and gameplay showed us players playing as an ex spy, a lawyer, a graffiti artist, a former boxer and even a grandma. Yes, you read that right, a grandma. With all the choices in characters, the game also features a permadeath system, where if you die as one character, you can never play as them again. This means that you really have to build your resistance so that you have multiple choices for characters to play as. The game will release on March 6th 2020 for PC, PS4 and Xbox one. Is this something that Pro Series Gaming (PSG) can venture into? Would you want such a tournament?
Back in 2017, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix released a teaser for an avengers game in development. This year at E3, they showed us the first trailer of the game, now known as Avengers A-day. The game will feature fan favourites such as Iron man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, and Black widow (No Hawkeye though). The Villain roster would include names such as Taskmaster and Abomination. There was no gameplay revealed as of yet. Other Games of interest revealed were games such as Forza Horizon that will now feature… Legos? FromSoftware, the studio that developed mind-numbing games such as Darksouls and Sekiro: Shadows Die twice, has partnered with George R.R. Martin to develop a new game known as Elden Ring. The game will be a “fantasy action-RPG adventure” and will be FromSoftware’s “largest game to-date”. It does not have a release date as of yet but it is set to be released on PC, PS4 and XBOX One.
The biggest news from 2019’s E3 however, came during Microsoft’s showcase, specifically during the showing of Cyberpunk 2077. This game is being developed by CD Projekt Red and is an open world first person RPG, set in a dystopian future California. Players will assume the role of the mercenary V, who has an arsenal of weapons and options for melee combat. The player can customize almost every single aspect of their character including their sex, hairstyles, face, body type, body modifications, background, and clothing. This year’s showcase of the game was heralded by Keanu Reeves, a definite fan favourite who is known for his works in the John Wick movies and the Matrix Trilogy. Seeing as Keanu will be a character within the game it comes as no surprises that Cyberpunk 2077 became one of the most trending hashtags from E3 on twitter. The last time a game was this anticipated was when the god of war reboot was showcased at E3 2016. The game will release on April 16th 2020, for Microsoft Windows, PS4 and XBOX One.
